Title: Minority Affairs Committee - Disparities in Rehab: OT and PT in the Hospital after Birth

Course Description: In this live discussion, Dr. Jasmine Edwards, chair of the APTA PA’s Minority Affairs Committee will interview special guest, Dr. Rebeca Segraves on the significance of postpartum rehabilitation for women. The conversation will emphasize the advocacy for student rehabilitation therapists to acquire skills in offering therapy to women following procedures such as c-section as well as addressing conditions affecting immediate and long-term function including preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, pelvic injury, and perineal trauma. The audience will learn how to implement evidence-based practice to reduce disparities in rehabilitation that disproportionately impact women of color who choose to give birth in a hospital.
