Title: A Comprehensive Review of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Venous Thromboembolism

Description: Attendees of this course will gain insight into the process that is required to develop a clinical practice guideline, levels of evidence considered, PT appropriate tests and measures that can be used to identify risk or presence of venous thromboembolism, and CPG recommendations for the management of VTE. This course’s content will be approximately 0.75 hours of differential diagnosis and evaluation, and 0.75 hours of clinical management and interventions. The presenter is seeking the 1.5 hours to be split evenly between evaluative and routine practice time for continuing education certificate purposes.

Speaker: Justin Mierzwicki, PT, DPT

Speaker Bio: Justin Mierzwicki earned his MPT in 2002 and DPT in 2005 from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.  During his 20+ years in clinical practice, he has worked primarily in acute care, acute inpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing settings.  He earned his Geriatric Clinical Specialist Certification through ABPTS in 2014, and Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults credential through AGPT in 2019, and Credentialed Balance and Falls Professional Credential in 2023.  He currently is a Clinical Associate Professor in the entry level DPT program at Lebanon Valley College where his primary teaching responsibilities include the courses Geriatric Physical Therapy, Pathophysiology, and Physical Therapy in the Inpatient Settings.  He is a Committee Content Expert for ABPTS Geriatrics, and is a Pennsylvania representative to the House of Delegates.
