Course objectives:

  1. Review principles of neuroplasticity and motor learning.
  2. Examine current motor learning literature to inform our discussion.
  3. Understand the definition of cognitive-motor interference and its importance in the stroke population. 
  4. Analyze the multitude of variables that need to be considered when selecting dual-task interventions. 
  5. Understand how to accurately assess treatment effect of dual-task training.

By the end of the presentation, the attendee will be able to:

  1. Implement Dual task training into treatment sessions effectively
  2. Develop dual task interventions tailored to meet patient specific goals
  3. Apply current literature on motor learning to enhance efficacy of above interventions.

More About Our Speakers:

Amanda Clark, PT, DPT, NCS is a Physical therapist at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network for almost eight years. She works on the stroke unit and served as the stroke program co-chair for four years. She is also the program director of the Good Shepherd Physical Therapy Neurologic Residency Program. She received her BA in Biology from The State University of New York at Geneseo and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the State University of New York Upstate Medical College.  She also received her Neurologic Certified Specialty in 2017.

Sean Vitale, PT, DPT, NCS, is graduate of Misericordia University and the Neurologic Residency Program at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation network. Sean has practiced in many areas including sub-acute rehabilitation, both neurologic and orthopedic outpatient rehabilitation, as well as skilled nursing and transitional care. Sean also collaborated in the establishment of Physical Therapy arm of Good Shepherd at Home. Presently Sean works in outpatient Neurology and contributes to the training of current Neurologic residents. Sean achieved his board certification in 2018 as a neurologic certified specialist and has an interest in motor learning and locomotor training.
