Course Description:
Osteoporosis is a growing clinical issue, wi
th a population of adults reaching age 65 each year projected to continuall
y increase through 2030. Physical Therapists are ideally positioned to be
proactive, and to change fracture risk demographics, by earlier recognition
and delivery of evidence-based exercise. This discussion will focus on pra
ctical exercise progressions and patient education resources for evaluation
and treatment of patients and clients with low bone density and osteoporos
is, useful in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

e About The Speaker:
Lisa Goussetis graduated from Boston University in 1983 with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Physical Therapy. She practiced in Harvard University
teaching hospitals while living in Boston for 13 years and then in outpati
ent settings in 3 states. During her time in Boston, she developed a specia
lty in the treatment of cervical and TMJ dysfunction and her continuing edu
cation has focused on manual therapy, myofascial release, craniosacral ther
apy, and exercise for special populations, including patients with osteopor
osis. In 2009-2010. Lisa continued her education at Drexel University, stud
ying the cervical spine and upper quarter. She integrates Pilates into her
practice as a Stott-certified Pilates instructor. In 2015, she became a Cer
tified Cervical Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT), making her one of only
50 such practitioners in the nation. Lisa has developed a successful Osteop
orosis Center at Drevna Physical Therapy Associates in Lancaster PA, leadin
g the way for other communities to utilize an effective inter-professional
approach. In 2015, she became a Peer Educator for American Bone Health, a n
ational non-profit group which performs community outreach and education on
osteoporosis. In 2017 she was a presenter on the topic of osteoporosis at
the PA Physical Therapy Annual Meeting and continues to lecture on the topi
c at the local, academic, and state levels. She is very interested in combi
ning community-based outreach and Physical Therapy. She is currently pursui
ng specialty certification as an Aging in Place Specialist. Lisa and her hu
sband have enjoyed raising their family in Lancaster, PA, which is currentl
y the #1 retirement city in the nation.
