  2. Identify essential components of the physical therapist’s examination and evaluation for post-COVID syndrome / PICS.
  3. Describe intervention strategies for post-COVID syndrome / PICS.

More About the Speakers:
Patricia J Ohtake, PT, PhD, is the Assistant Vice President for Interprofessional Education in the Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences and Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Program at the University at Buffalo. Dr. Ohtake’s research focuses on the use of simulation for physical therapist education, interprofessional education, and post-intensive care syndrome. As an acute care physical therapist, Dr. Ohtake has over 30 years of experience. In 2000, Dr. Ohtake was the recipient of the APTA Margaret L Moore Award for Outstanding New Faculty Member, in 2017 she received the APTA Lucy Blair Service Award and in 2021 she received APTA Acute Care’s Lecture Award. She has over 65 peer-reviewed publications, two book chapters, and has been a consistent presenter at chapter, national, and international conferences. Dr. Ohtake is a member of the APTA and Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy supported team for the development of a Clinical Practice Guideline for the Identification and Evaluation of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome.

Jim Smith, PT, DPT, is a professor of physical therapy at Utica College. He is past-president of APTA Acute Care and his scholarship includes more than 40 publications. He has been the recipient of APTA’s FA Davis Outstanding PTA Educator and Lucy Blair Service Awards, Acute Care APTA’s James Dunleavy Distinguished Service and Lecture Awards, and the New York Physical Therapy Association’s Dr. Marilyn Moffat Distinguished Service Award.
