Course Topic: "Osteoporosis: Practical Exercise Progressions" presented by Lisa Goussetis, PT, CCTT

Course Description:
Osteoporosis is a growing clinical issue, with a population of adults reaching age 65 each year projected to continually increase through 2030.  Physical Therapists are ideally positioned to be proactive, and to change fracture risk demographics, by earlier recognition and delivery of evidence-based exercise. This discussion will focus on practical exercise progressions and patient education resources for evaluation and treatment of patients and clients with low bone density and osteoporosis, useful in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

More About The Speaker:
Lisa Goussetis graduated from Boston University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. She practiced in Harvard University teaching hospitals while living in Boston for 13 years and then in outpatient settings in 3 states. During her time in Boston, she developed a specialty in the treatment of cervical and TMJ dysfunction and her continuing education has focused on manual therapy, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and exercise for special populations, including patients with osteoporosis. In 2009-2010. Lisa continued her education at Drexel University, studying the cervical spine and upper quarter. She integrates Pilates into her practice as a Stott-certified Pilates instructor. In 2015, she became a Certified Cervical Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT), making her one of only 50 such practitioners in the nation. Lisa has developed a successful Osteoporosis Center at Drevna Physical Therapy Associates in Lancaster PA, leading the way for other communities to utilize an effective inter-professional approach. In 2015, she became a Peer Educator for American Bone Health, a national non-profit group which performs community outreach and education on osteoporosis. In 2017 she was a presenter on the topic of osteoporosis at the PA Physical Therapy Annual Meeting and continues to lecture on the topic at the local, academic, and state levels. She is very interested in combining community-based outreach and Physical Therapy. She is currently pursuing specialty certification as an Aging in Place Specialist. Lisa and her husband have enjoyed raising their family in Lancaster, PA, which is currently the #1 retirement city in the nation.
