Course Title: "Incontinence Management of the Geriatric Patient" presented by Erin Reddinger, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist

Course Description: This 1 hour course will provide a basic review of bladder function, pelvic floor muscle anatomy, and incontinence. It will also provide treatment options for incontinence for therapists who have not specialized in pelvic floor management, demonstrate external palpation techniques of the pelvic floor muscles, and describe how incontinence can have a direct impact on an older adult’s function and quality of life. Current literature will be reviewed to assist in developing evidence-based plans of care for the geriatric patient with bladder dysfunction. Incontinence assessment tools and fluid management strategies will also be discussed.

Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Review bladder control, stages of urination, and the role of the pelvic floor
  2. Evaluate each type of bladder dysfunction and identify each bladder control problem
  3. Describe how incontinence impacts the function of an older adult
  4. Summarize medical management of incontinence
  5. Provide evidence-based interventions for management of incontinence and bladder control
  6. Design a plan of care based on evaluation of bladder symptoms and impairments
